Pre-requisite swim test for Lifeguard classes


Participants will be registered for the Lifeguard class by the person conducting the pre-test, upon completion of the prerequisite swim test.

All fees will be accepted upon completion of pre-requisite test. Payment received via cash or check written to the "Commissioner of Finance".

Lifeguard Class Dates:

FALL - Saturday's 5:00pm-8:30pm September 21st - November 9th
(Must attend all Classes)

Quick - Wednesday's 5:00pm-8:30pm and Saturday's 8:30am-12:00pm November 20th - December 21st excluding 11/27 & 11/30.
(Must attend all Classes)

Winter - Sunday's 5:00pm-8:30pm January 5th - March 9th excluding 2/9 & 2/16
(Must attend all Classes)

Spring Sunday's 5:00pm-8:30pm March 23rd - May 18th excluding 4/13
(Must attend all Classes)


Pre-requisite test must be completed before the lifeguard class start date.
Dates and times for the pre-requisite test can be found by clicking the register button.
Registration/Certification fee will be accepted at the pre-requisite test immediately after completion via cash or check written to the Commissioner of Finance.

*All Registration and Certification fees waived for City residents who work a minimum of 20 hours per week, for the* duration of the summer season. Fees will be refunded to all eligible city residents who apply.


PRE-TEST:
Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence
Jump in, submerge, resurface and swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.
Swim goggles are allowed.
Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.

Timed Event
Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.
The face may be in or out of the water.
Swim goggles are not allowed.
Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face at or near the surface.
Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

FEES:
Fees waived for City Residents who intend on working one summer season for us with a minimum of 20 hours per a week.
City Resident class fee: $25
Non-City Resident class fee: $75
American Red Cross Certification: $80

Any pre-test completed will qualify you for the forthcoming class.
