Pre-requisite swim test for upcoming Lifeguard classes
Classes offered at Valley and Southwest pool.

We will register you for the program after the pre-test is completed.

Any pre-test taken after 4/15/24 will qualify you for the summer class.

Lifeguard Class Dates:
FALL - Saturdays September 23rd - November 11th from 5:00-8:30PM

QUICK - Wednesdays & Saturdays November 29th - December 23rd, Wed 5:00-8:30PM, Sat 8:30AM-Noon

WINTER - Sundays January 7th - March 10th from 5:00-8:30PM (excluding March 3rd and 10th)

SPRING #1- Sundays March 17th - May 12th from 5:00-8:30PM (excluding April 21st)

SPRING #2 - Tuesday & Thursday March 12th - April 11th 6:00-9:00PM

SPRING #3 - Tuesday & Thursday April 30th - May 30rd 4:30-8:00PM

SPRING #4 - Wednesday, Friday & Saturday - May 18th - June 1st
Wednesday & Friday 4:30-8:00PM
Saturdays 10:30AM-5:00PM



Pre-requisite test must be completed before the lifeguard class start date.
Dates and times for the pre-requisite test can be found by clicking the register button.
Registration/Certification fee will be accepted at the pre-requisite test immediately after completion via cash or check written to the Commissioner of Finance.

PRE-TEST:
Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence
Jump in, submerge, resurface and swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.
Swim goggles are allowed.
Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.

Timed Event
Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.
The face may be in or out of the water.
Swim goggles are not allowed.
Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face at or near the surface.
Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

FEES:
Fees waived for City Residents who intend on working one summer season for us with a minimum of 20 hours per a week.
City Resident class fee: $25
Non-City Resident class fee: $75
(This fee goes to the city for offering the class)

plus, an additional $80 certification fee is due on the first day of class. (This fee goes to the American red cross for the certifications)

Any pre-test completed will qualify you for the forthcoming class; if that class is full, you may register for the following class.
